About

Hyde Park is the blog for Hyde Park Associates, an executive communications consultancy that helps executives and politicians rise above the noise with effective communications to customers, shareholders, analysts, employees, voters and the media.

Hyde Park gets its name from London’s Hyde Park and its Speakers’ Corner. I was 13, when I first visited Speaker’s Corner, where on any given day, dozens of speakers climb atop wooden crates or step ladders to speak on political, economic, religious and social topics. They speak enthusiastically to anyone who will listen, and sometimes, to no one at all. The style of delivery varies, from that of the intellectual to that of the madman, but each speaker has the same goal: to be louder and more interesting than everyone else.

I thought the metaphor of a speaker stepping onto his or her “soapbox” was a compelling one for the task executives and politicians face today in the marketplace of ideas: delivering a message that will rise above the noise.
